If you make ANY changes to the network name, network password, or router, it will affect all devices connected wirelessly (including your Feit Electric Smart Device). This happens most commonly when a user moves to a new location or buys a new router and forgets the number of connected devices. But the good news is that it is easily fixable.
If you know you made a change to your network that resulted in the disconnection of your device, you can address the problem in two ways.
- Update your new router name and password to match your previous router's settings.
- Reconnect your Feit Electric smart device using the new network information.
Read below for more information on each potential solution below.
Option 1: Keep Your Previous Network Name and Password
When your Wi-Fi device(s) try to connect to a network, they look for a network that matches the SSID and password previously saved. However, every new router comes with a unique preset Service Set Identifier (SSID) and password. Your device(s) will not know that you changed your router but will know that the address is no longer compatible. If your SSID and password have not changed, it is possible that your device(s) will connect normally. Although it is common to keep the preset SSIID, it results in having to update every Wi-Fi device present in your home.
To change the SSID and password of your new router you will need to know your previous router's SSID and password. Then access your current router's homepage or settings. Often it can be reached by typing in your router's IP address into a web browser. Most routers have the same private IP address. You can try inputting 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into the address bar of your browser. Then search for Wireless Settings and enter your new username and password and click Apply or Save.
Of course, it isn't always that simple! It may not work if you are upgrading from a router with older security protocols. Even if you use the same password, it won't look the same to the devices involved.
Option 2: Reconnect Your Smart Device Using the New Network Name and Password
The other option is for you to go through the process of reconnecting your Feit Electric smart device using the new network name and password. You will need to go through this same process for any device connected to your network including smart TVs, smartphones, laptops etc.
1. If your Feit Electric smart bulb is not flashing rapidly or showing it is in pairing mode, you will need to reset it.
2. If it's a bulb just turn it on and off three times (on/off/on/off/on).
NOTE: For other smart products, there may be a reset button. Please refer to your user guide or product Getting Started Guide for more specific instructions. |
3. Then follow the instructions in your app to reconnect your product using the correct 2.4 GHz network and password. You can also check out our Getting Started Guide with more information.
