The Feit Electric Smart Dimmer can be installed as a Single Pole or 3-Way dimmer. Installation requires a neutral wire. For detailed instructions please reference the Feit Electric installation guide.
You can also watch the video below. If you have any questions about your wiring please consult a qualified electrician for assistance.
Step 1: Get Ready for Installation
Before getting started you'll need:
- Your Smart Dimmer and its included contents
- Tools: Voltage meter reader, flat head screw driver, needle nose plyer, Philips screw driver, wire stripper
Step 2: Smart Dimmer Wiring-Single Pole Dimmer
1. Turn Off Power
Be sure to turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse and test with voltage meter reader to make sure power is completely off before proceeding.
2. Identify Your Wiring
Remove the existing wall plate to identify your wiring. If you see a white wire or a group of them, you most likely have neutral wiring. The dimmer will not work without neutral wiring. Consult a qualified electrician to install the appropriate wires.
3. Label Your Wires
Label the line side:
- Line (hot) Wire=Black label
- Neutral Wire=White label
- Ground Wire=Green label
- First Traveler=Black Label
- Second Traveler=Yellow Label
Label the loading side:
- Load=Red label
- Neutral=White label
- Ground=Green label
- First Traveler=Black label
- Second Traveler=Yellow label
4. Disconnect Wires and Remove the Old Switch
5. Strip the Wires
Strip your wires to reveal around 3/4 in. of the copper wire
6. Your Smart Dimmer Can Be Connected Two Ways
a. Two Smart Dimmers on the Same Circuit
Install the dimmer into the location connected to the incoming 120V line. Insert the wires into the appropriately marked terminal holes and tighten with the terminal screws.
Install the second dimmer in the location connected to the fixture or the load, and insert the wires into the appropriately marked terminal holes and tighten with the terminal screws.
b. One Smart Dimmer With A witch on the Same Circuit
Install the Smart Dimmer in the location connected to the fixture, or the load.
The regular switch needs to be connected to the incoming 120V line
7. Fit the Smart Dimmer Inside the Wall Box
Be sure that all the wires are inside the wall box leaving enough space to insert the housing. Secure the dimmer inside the wall box with the mounting screws provided.
8. Secure the Mounting Plate
Gently separate the mounting frame from the wall plate. Place mounting frame over the installed Smart Dimmer. Then secure in place with the provided screws.
10. Snap the decorative frame over the wall frame.
11. Restore Power
Restore your power to enable dimmer operation.
Step 3: Dimming Manually
1. Use Up and Down Buttons to Dim
You can manually dim or increase the brightness of the light with the up and down buttons. Use the indicator power button to turn lights on or off.
The Smart Dimmer has indicator lights to show the brightness level you select.
Step 4. Flickering Troubleshooting
1. Flickering While Dimming
If flickering occurs, be sure to tighten any loose bulbs, and make sure that all bulbs are rated dimmable. If flickering continues, this may be caused by surges or spikes in your electricity. Manually setting the lowest dimming point to the lowest dimming point may help. To manually set the lowest dimming point press and hold the dim up and dim down buttons simultaneously for at least 5 seconds. The power indicator circle on the switch will start blinking.
2. Set the Lowest Dimming Point
Use the dimming buttons to select the lowest dimming point without any visible flickering. Then press and hold the dimming buttons for 5 seconds to set or until the power indicator circle light turns into a solid light.
