Grow Lighting
Read the article below for tips and information about LED grow lighting. You can also watch this how-to grow video.
What do these terms mean?
- PPF measures the total amount of PAR that is produced by a lighting system each second.
- PAR is the amount of light that’s usable to plants- those wavelengths that will be used for photosynthesis. Just like the difference between a growing area and a canopy, PAR is not the measure of all of the light a grow light gives off, but the measurement of the wavelengths plants will absorb.
- The photon flux is defined as the number of photons per second per unit area: The photon flux is important in determining the number of electrons that are generated, and hence the current produced from a solar cell.
- Luminous Flux is the measure of the brightness of a light source in terms of energy being emitted. Luminous flux, in SI units, is measured in the lumen (lm). It is a measurement of energy released in the form of visible light from a light-producing source.
- Correlated color temperature (CCT) is a measure of light source color appearance defined by the proximity of the light source's chromaticity coordinates to the blackbody locus, as a single number rather than the two required to specify a chromaticity.
- Color rendering index (CRI) is a quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reveal the colors of various objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source. Light sources with a high CRI are desirable in color-critical applications such as neonatal care and art restoration.
How high a PAR value light do I need?
- The higher the better (in most cases). PAR is what plants can use to create the energy they need to grow.
What is Light Bleaching/ Light Burn?
- Light Bleaching/ Light Burn will cause your plant to turn albino as a result of strong LED and HPS lights that are situated too close to the top of your plant. In this situation adjust the distance of the light to the plant.
- We would suggest starting by raising the lamp 2 inches. Keep an eye on the plant. If the yellowing does not go away after 3 days, raise the lamp again.
What are the Full Spectrum and Red Spectrum?
- Full Spectrum is the mixture of a blue spectrum and a white spectrum of light.
- This is good for the seedling stage.
- The Red Spectrum is a mixture of the red spectrum and white spectrum of light.
- This is good for the flowering and vegetation stage.
What is the recommended height to place the grow light from my plants?
- High Light plants
- Tomatoes, peppers, perennials, ETC
- Seedlings- Start at 6" for the first 2 weeks. Once the plant can support itself with flowers move into the vegetative stage
- Vegetative and/or Flowering Stage 16-30"
- Tomatoes, peppers, perennials, ETC
- Low Light Plants
- Herbs and Leafy greens (such as basil and lettuce)
- Seedlings- Start at 6" for the first 2 weeks. Once the plant can support itself with flowers move into the vegetative stage
- Vegetative and/or Flowering Stage 16-30"
- Herbs and Leafy greens (such as basil and lettuce)
How much area does my light cover?
- 12in fixtures will cover a 12 in by 12 in area
- Bulbs (A19, BR30, and PAR38), Clamp Light, and 2ft fixtures will cover a 2ft by 2ft area
- 4ft fixture will cover a 4ft by 4ft area
Are A19 grow light bulbs with the medium (E26) base self-ballasted?
- Yes, they have a driver inside that regulates the power.
How many grow lights can I link together?
- Single tube fixture
- The 12in light (GLP12ADJS/RF/10W/LED) can link up to 39 lights
- The 12in light (GLP12FS/VM/13.5W/LED) can link up to 4 lights

What would be a compatible ballast for my 4ft grow light plug and play tube?
- Please check the ballast compatibility list- https://www.feit.com/ballast_compatibility/
My Adjustable Grow bulb or fixtures are not on the same Color spectrum on the Switch function
- From the wall switch, turn the fixtures on/off in 7 complete cycles. (on then off is 1 cycle.). This will reset the bulbs/fixtures to the lowest setting option.
