Here are answers to common questions about Feit Electric Smart Lighting products.
Is a subscription necessary to operate Feit Smart devices?
No, a subscription is not necessary to operate any of our smart products. Our Feit Electric app is available as a free download on all iOS and Android devices.
Can I turn smart lights off/on with a regular (not smart) wall light switch or dimmer?
It is not recommended to turn smart light bulbs on/off with a wall switch. When the bulbs lose power they will also lose connection to the internet and require reconnecting using the Feit app. Instead please use the Feit mobile app or a voice assistant to turn the light bulbs on or off. Or set up schedules or automation in the app.
Do smart bulbs work in non-smart lamps and fixtures?
Yes, smart bulbs are designed to install in regular (not internet-connected) lamps and fixtures. It is not recommended to install them in 3-way light fixtures.
Can I use smart bulbs in ceiling fans?
We do not recommend using smart bulbs in ceiling fans with dimmers or remote controls.
Do Feit smart lights needs a hub or starter kit?
All you need is Wi-Fi and an iOs or Android-compatible smart device to run the Feit Electric app. The Smart Wi-Fi products do not require a starter kit or hub.
Can I use smart bulbs in fixtures controlled by smart dimmers, smart light switches, or smart plugs?
Smart bulbs already have smart technology built-in, using smart switches or plugs is not recommended. It could cause compatibility issues. The smart bulbs also have a built-in dimmer and are dimmable using the Feit Electric app and are not compatible with wall dimmers or 3-way light fixtures.
Can smart bulbs be used outside?
Most smart Wi-Fi bulbs are damp-rated and can be used outside as long as they are protected against severe weather and water contact. PAR 38 bulbs are wet location rated and most suitable for outdoor use. Keep in mind that the bulb also has to be within the range of the router at all times.
Can my smart lights be scheduled to turn on at certain times and at a specific brightness level or color?
Yes, you can use the Feit app scheduling function to program your smart lighting or other smart devices to turn on or off at certain times. You can also use the Smart Scenes feature and Automation to set up routines to happen automatically. For example, your lights can turn on automatically at Dusk and turn off at Dawn.
Can I use my Feit Smart Wi-fi product without wi-fi service?
No. In order to use the smart capabilities of any Feit Electric Smart Wi-fi device, wi-fi service is required. With a Wi-Fi connection, you can control your Feit Electric products from virtually anywhere, giving you the convenience of managing your devices no matter where you are.
Note: The exception would be our Smart Wi-Fi Dimmer. You could use the Smart Wi-Fi Dimmer as a regular dimmer switch without connecting the device to a wi-fi connection.
How do I remove a smart bulb from the Feit Electric app?
If your Feit app is set to List View, follow the below instructions:
- Tap on the bulb you wish to remove from the app.
- Tap the pencil icon in the top right-hand corner.
- Then tap Remove Device at the bottom of the screen.
If your Feit app is set to Grid View, follow the below instructions:

How do I sync a group of lights to music at the same time?
Once your Feit Smart Wi-fi device(s) are connected, try the music feature. Start by playing music from your phone and then tap on the music icon in the Feit app. The light(s) will begin to change with the beat of the song. The trick to using this feature is to keep the Feit app's music feature open on your phone. The lights will continue to change while the music is being played in the background on that same phone.
Note: You will not be able to play music from a separate device and still use the music feature. The song must be played on the same phone that the Feit Electric app is installed on.
