If you make ANY changes to the network name, your router, or your network password it will affect any device connected to it including your Feit Electric Smart Device.
This will often happen if you move or buy a new router and you may forget about all the connected devices in your home. But the good news is it's fixable.
If you know you made a change to your network that disconnected your device, you can address the problem two ways.
- You can update your new router name and password to match your old router settings.
- You will need to reconnect your Feit Electric smart device using the new network information.
Read below for more information on each potential solution below.
Option 1: Keep Your Old Network Name and Password
Every new router comes with a preset SSID or Service Set Identifier and password. Most people will just use that but the problem is you will now need to update every Wi-Fi device in your home.
When your Wi-Fi devices try to connect to your network they look for a network that matches the SSID and password you previously told them to use. It won't know that you changed your router but it will know the address isn't right. But if your SSID and password are the same as they always have been it may just connect normally.
To change your SSID and password you will need to know what it was before and access your router's homepage or settings. Often it can be reached by typing in your router's IP address into a web browser. Most routers have the same private IP address. You can try 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into the address bar of your browser. Then search for Wireless settings and enter your new username and password and click Apply or Save.
Of course it isn't always that simple! It may not working if you are upgrading from a router with older security protocols. Even if you use the same password, it won't look the same to the devices involved.
Option 2: Reconnect Your Smart Device Using the New Network Name and Password
The other option is for you to go through the process of reconnecting your Feit Electric smart device using the new network name and password. You will need to go through this same process for any device connected to your network including smart TVs, smartphones and laptops etc.
- If your Feit Electric smart bulb is not flashing rapidly or showing it is in pairing mode, you will need to reset it.
If it's a bulb just turn it on and off three times on/off/on/off/on.
For other smart products, there may be a reset button.
